To maintain good oral health, it is imperative to pair routine dental checkups with proper dental hygiene. Dr. Roxanne Lawrence and our dental team are pleased to educate our patients about dental hygiene.
Brush your teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Use a fluoride toothpaste, as this will provide you with extra protection against tooth decay. Your toothbrush should have soft bristles and a head that is small enough to reach all areas of your mouth. With your toothbrush at a 45 degree where your teeth meet the gums, brush back and forth using small circular movements. Brush all surfaces of your teeth, paying special attention to your front and back teeth. Brush your tongue from back to front to remove plaque and prevent bad breath.
Floss once a day, using whatever type and flavor you like. Gently work the floss between your teeth. By curving the floss around each tooth, slide it under your gum line. Move the floss up and down a few times to remove plaque. If your gums bleed while flossing, this will stop as your gums become healthier.
